Around the Pot

Around the Pot is the Overberg's gravel miler — roughly 160 kilometres of wheatland roads looping the Potberg at the edge of De Hoop, in the rolling country between the Breede River and the sea. It has become one of the fixtures of the South African gravel calendar.

A miler through the Overberg wheatlands

The formula is pure gravel racing: long rollers through wheat and canola, farm-gate water points, the Potberg on the horizon and a finish-line beer that tastes like it was earned, because it was. Shorter distances run alongside the miler, which makes it a good first gravel race as well as a fast one.

The Overberg, the long way

Petrichor Events put this on and entries are theirs, on the link above. We are fans, and we ride it. If you want to know the roads before you race them, or you simply want to spend more than one day in this district, we build supported Overberg gravel weekends through the same country — Greyton's oak-lined gravel, the ferry at Malgas, fishermen's cottages at Arniston — and we time them for canola season if you want the yellow.
