Around the Pot is the Overberg's gravel miler — roughly 160 kilometres of wheatland roads looping the Potberg at the edge of De Hoop, in the rolling country between the Breede River and the sea. It has become one of the fixtures of the South African gravel calendar.
The formula is pure gravel racing: long rollers through wheat and canola, farm-gate water points, the Potberg on the horizon and a finish-line beer that tastes like it was earned, because it was. Shorter distances run alongside the miler, which makes it a good first gravel race as well as a fast one.

Mapmaker Collective does not organise, own or sell entries to this race. We are a Cape Town cycling tour operator who rides it, admires the people who put it on, and builds trips around it. Entries are handled entirely by the organiser on the links above.
The 2027 date had not been published as of 13 August 2026. The race has run on the first Saturday of August, and the 2026 edition was held on 1 August.
The 100 Miler is 160km and starts at 07h30. The 60 Miler is 102km and starts at 08h00. Both are solo only, with no team categories.
The Swellendam Showgrounds in the Overberg, Western Cape. The route runs on gravel and dirt farm roads through the rolling foothills.
