01 — The Idea

More than
just a bike ride.

The Cederberg is one of the last truly quiet places in the Western Cape. Ancient sandstone formations, fynbos turning gold and wildflower-yellow in spring, and some of the darkest night skies left in South Africa.

A trip for keen gravel riders who want the rawer side of the Cape. Wide tyres, steep rocky passes and nights spent under more stars than you’ve ever seen – bookended by two days of Cape Town’s best attractions on and off the bike.

Let us take care of every detail. All you have to do is ride.

“This isn’t a ride you do for the finish line. It’s a ride you do for the silence, the stars and the climbs that earn both.”

Acclimatise
Experience the world-renowned hospitality of the Mother City. Relax, absorb the spectacular surrounding mountains and breathe crisp coastal air. Build your bike. Day3
North to the Cederberg
Shuttle · Local Dining · First Gravel
Transfer + Riding
Your first taste of proper African gravel. We roll out of Clanwilliam along the Olifantsrivier and climb Nardouwsberg, through the ancient rock formations of the Cederberg Mountain Range. Luxury tented camps, a traditional braai and hot tubs at AfriCamps welcome us at the base of the Pakhuis Pass.
Days4–5
Into the Mountains
93km · 2,039m Climbing · 45–50C Tyres
90km max
Hard
A formidable and rewarding day as we venture deep into the heart of the Northern Cederberg – remote gravel mountain passes, rooibos farms, a Moravian mission village and the seasonal wonder of the indigenous Biedouw Valley flowers. Prehistoric rock art depicting life in a simpler time abounds. Don’t bother checking your phone for signal…
Day6
Stargazing Night
Milky Way · Zero Light Pollution
Easy
Deep in the Cederberg, nights are crystal clear and alive with ancient mythology. Your reward after a day cruising red earth and wildflowers? Wholesome food, fireside chats and luxury tented camping. You’ll be transported to a sacred and forgotten time with the focus on connection.
Day7
The Deep South
Koue Bokkeveld · Middelberg Pass · Citrusdal
Moderate
The rugged rolling gravel climbs of the Southern Cederberg give way to sculptural rock formations carved by wind, rain and time itself, before morphing into the open farmland of the Koue Bokkeveld. Orchards and irrigation dams dot the landscape as we climb to Wolfkop for a final night in the wild. In the morning a shuttle back to civilisation awaits.
Days8–9
Jonkershoek, Constantia & Departure
Cape Epic Trails · Wine Country · Departure
Easy
A relaxed final day or two, exploring the world-class mountain bike trails of Jonkershoek in Stellenbosch and/or wine-tasting in the iconic Constantia Valley, home to the oldest and most coveted vineyards on the continent.
